This day in history from:

A hint...

Hello! It's been a while.

What have I been up to since this blog-blackout? Still cannot say much because the "situation" is not over. So the blog-blackout still stands.

But I'll give you a hint:

Have a great weekend! Until I can blog regularly again...

I Can't Make You Love Me

I Can't Make You Love Me
written by Mike Reid and Allen Shamblin
as sung by George Michael

Turn down the lights, turn down the bed
Turn down these voices inside my head
Lay down with me, tell me no lies
Just hold me close, don't patronize
Don't patronize me

'cause I can't make you love me if you don't
You can't make your heart feel something it won't
Here in the dark in these final hours
I will lay down my heart, and I'll feel the power
But you won't, no you won't
And I can't make you love me
If you don't

I'll close my eyes and then I won't see
The love you do not feel, when you're holding me
Morning will come, and I'll do whats right
Just give me 'till then, to give up this fight
And I will give up this fight

And I can't make you love me if you don't
You can't make your heart feel something it won't
And here in the dark in these final hours
I will lay down my heart and I'll feel the power
But you won't, no, you won't
And I can't make you love me
If you don't

Ain't no use in you trying
It's no good for me baby without love
All my tears, all these years, everything I believed in
Baby
Oh yeah
Someone's gonna love me

Careless Whisper...

Careless Whisper
(by Wham!)

Time can never mend the careless whispers of a good friend
To the heart and mind, ignorance is kind
there's no comfort in the truth
pain is all you'll find

Should've known better

I feel so unsure
as I take your hand and lead you to the dance floor
as the music dies, something in your eyes
calls to mind the silver screen
and all its sad good-byes

I'm never gonna dance again
guilty feet have got no rhythm
though it's easy to pretend
I know you're not a fool

Should've known better than to cheat a friend
and waste the chance that I've been given
so I'm never gonna dance again
the way I danced with you

Time can never mend
the careless whispers of a good friend
to the heart and mind
ignorance is kind
there's no comfort in the truth
pain is all you'll find

I'm never gonna dance again
guilty feet have got no rhythm
though it's easy to pretend
I know you're not a fool

Should've known better than to cheat a friend
and waste this chance that I've been given
so I'm never gonna dance again
the way I danced with you

Never without your love

Tonight the music seems so loud
I wish that we could lose this crowd
Maybe it's better this way
We'd hurt each other with the things we'd want to say

We could have been so good together
We could have lived this dance forever
But noone's gonna dance with me
Please stay

And I'm never gonna dance again
guilty feet have got no rhythm
though it's easy to pretend
I know you're not a fool

Should've known better than to cheat a friend
and waste the chance that I've been given
so I'm never gonna dance again
the way I danced with you

(Now that you're gone) Now that you're gone
(Now that you're gone) What I did's so wrong
that you had to leave me alone

I Can See Clearly Now

I Can See Clearly Now
(Johnny Nash)

I can see clearly now, the rain is gone,
I can see all obstacles in my way
Gone are the dark clouds that had me blind
It’s gonna be a bright (bright), bright (bright)
Sun-Shiny day.

I think I can make it now, the pain is gone
All of the bad feelings have disappeared
Here is the rainbow I’ve been prayin' for
It’s gonna be a bright (bright), bright (bright)
Sun-Shiny day.

Look all around, there’s nothin' but blue skies
Look straight ahead, nothin' but blue skies

I can see clearly now, the rain is gone,
I can see all obstacles in my way
Gone are the dark clouds that had me blind
It’s gonna be a bright (bright), bright (bright)
Sun-Shiny day.

45th Anniversary

Time for another blog blackout break.

Just want to greet my parents on their 45th wedding anniversary today. They may not be rich (or not THAT rich...) but they have a rare commodity more precious than gold, diamonds or platinum: a lasting marriage.

My gift to them: a sortie at Sofitel Philippine Plaza, with an overnight stay for my mom, Bea, Nico and my two other nieces.

Happy 45th anniversary Mom and Dad!

(And now... back to blog silence...)

Great Lawyering

As I embark anew in a solo career, considering what has happened during the past few weeks, I have come to a realization:

Great lawyering should not be an end unto itself. Great lawyering, however, should end in great goals.

Great lawyering is only a means to an end. Great lawyering should merely pave the way to human greatness.

Enough said for now. Back to blog blackout.

Moonshots

Saw the full moon last night and I figured, this is a learning opportunity.

After much experimentation and a little help from the web, these are the best shots I got. These have been cropped for dramatic effect.

(Technical details: f/10, 1/250", 250mm, ISO 100, evaluative metering. Taken with a Canon EOD 450 with a 55-250mm lens, no tripod. Except for cropping, the pictures received no image enhancement or any other post-processing.)

This day in history from:

Persona Ingrata

Another blog blackout break...

Did you see that Pacquiao-Hatton fight? Manny and Freddy Roach were simply brilliant and really shut the mouths of Hatton and Mayweather, Sr.

A total failure of intelligence on the part of the Hatton camp. And a total lack thereof.

They were preparing for Manny's left but did not anticipate Manny developing a devastating right hook? They better just shut their mouths up from now on.

And if ever Mayweather, Jr. decides to fight Manny in the future, he better get a new trainer and dump his smart-aleck-but-cannot-deliver father quickly.

In another aspect of the event, I believe Martin Nievera should be banned from the Philippines for being persona non grata.

He has no right to re-arrange the Philippine National Anthem and sing it as he did. That's sacrilege. That's just as, or even worse than forgetting the lyrics like Christian Bautista. And I even think it's now illegal do that. And I'm pretty sure he did not clear that version with the Historical Commission because they would have disapproved that in a heartbeat.

I can't believe how he repays the country that has been good to him, that has given him much fame and fortune. He repays that country by screwing up with the Anthem.

He should return the money he got for that. He should even pay a penalty.

He's more than persona non grata. He's persona ingrata!

With a little research, I found out Martin Nievera violated Section 37 of Republic Act 8491 (known as the Flag and Heraldic Code of the Philippines) that states:

SEC. 37. The rendition of the National Anthem, whether played or sung, shall be in accordance with the musical arrangement and composition of Julian Felipe.

And the penalty is stated in Section 50 of the same law:

SEC. 50. Any person or juridical entity which violates any of the provisions of this Act shall, upon conviction, be punished by a fine of not less than Five thousand pesos (P5,000) nor more than Twenty thousand pesos (P20,000), or by imprisonment for not more than one (1) year, or both such fine and imprisonment, at the discretion of the court: Provided, That for any second and additional offenses, both fine and imprisonment shall always be imposed: Provided, further, That in case the violation is committed by a juridical person, its President or Chief Executive Officer thereof shall be liable.

Swine Flu in Las Vegas?

We interrupt this blog blackout for some news:

There are reports that Nevada has its first confirmed case of swine flu, albeit mild.

So there may be a possibility that there may be swine flu in time for the Pacquiao-Hatton fight.

All I can say is: "Serves you right!"

Let's end this blog-blackout interruption with a video from the CDC on the symptoms of swine-flu:

Enjoy your long vacation!

Lord Jesus,
Teach me to be generous,

That I do Your Holy Will. Amen

THE LAWYER'S PRAYER

I ask come from Your Wisdom...
May every case I handle receive Your Guidance...

So God granted him what he requested.
