Responsible Tagging

Hello!

It's been a while. And I just wanted to post this here because Facebook only allows status updates 420 characters long.

For those who are wondering where I have been, I have not disappeared from the face of the intarwebs. I am just around but I chose to limit my circles of internet interaction. That means, I've been more than active in Facebook (and Twitter, both on protected accounts) than anywhere else. The reasons for this, I am still not at liberty to tell.

Anyway, I am really peeved by irresponsible tagging on Facebook. You know what I mean: people (your friends) tagging you in a photograph where you are not actually in just because they want you to see it at once.

So to my Facebook friends: please, please, please tag me only in a photo I am actually in (which is rare because I don't like being photographed). Don't tag me just because you want me to see it.

It's kind of untruthful (and sorry to be blunt, rude) and my inbox does not need the additional messages from the comments of people I don't know.

And believe me, I don't need to get tagged to see it.

And if you really, really, really want me to see it (immediately), take the time and exert a little more effort to tell me directly (i.e., use the "Share" function). Tag responsibly and don't use it as a shortcut.

And this may also apply to Notes. Please just tag me when I'm mentioned there. Again, use the "Share" function instead.

Memes, however, are a different story. I like those and tagging is part of the fun. Tag me there if you want me to participate. At least you give me an option to do it or not.

And mass messages advertising something or addressed to a group I subscribed to are ok for me. At least there, I know you took the time and effort to make a message and address it to me, or to a lot of us. Also, I have the option there to delete the message if I think it's too... spamy.

These practices may be accepted Facebook etiquette, which I seriously doubt because Share function is still there. But I don't like it and I hope my friends don't follow it just because everyone is doing it.

So in short, don't abuse the "Tag" and use the "Share" instead.

Hope I didn't offend anyone by this and if I did, I apologize in advance. But you know where I'm coming from.
