Recording and Reunion
As we were packing up after mass, I was approached by a neighbor asking us a favor. They had to sing for a mass this coming Wednesday and they had no instrumentalist to accompany them. She asked us to record the instrumental accompaniment.
Had she had some recording equipment that time, we could have just performed the song for a few minutes. But she did not.
So I had no alternative but to record the songs in the computer and merely email the midi file to her the next day.
From experience, I used the think that will be a long, slow process. I am a bit rusty in the keyboard, as I have been concentrating on my wind instruments of late. Because of that, I thought it would take hours of repeated rehearsals to put up a decent recording.
But technology came to the rescue. The software I used allowed me to easily cover up or correct my performance mistakes. It was just a matter of deleting or correcting the rogue notes. I even re-recorded a new intro and simply pasted it with the rest of the song.
With that, it only took me just a little over and hour to do. But it was nothing fancy though. I only made the piano track and did not put additional instruments.
Anyway, we had a visit from some next-door neighbors from my old house (and hence, very good friends). And we enjoyed that visit, as they stayed way into the night. It was a good time to catch up on stories. It was also a good time for Bea to spend some time with her best friend.
In all, it was a very good weekend. It was just the thing I need to get through what happened last week.
Here's to a better week ahead of us.
