Good to be back...
Unlike other "brothers" in my profession, I still enjoy being a lawyer. Yes, I know it's work and I have to do this for a living but I am still in touch with why I wanted to become one way back.
Nothing beats a good hearing to affirm this. I have always said technically and legally, anyone can perform the functions of a corporate lawyer. There is no law that says a corporate secretary of a firm must be a lawyer and the functions of corporate practice, from housekeeping and reportorial matters technically can be performed by someone who knows what he or she is doing, licensed or unlicensed.
But litigation is another matter.
On a bona fide lawyer can stand before a judge or justices to enter his or her appearance, argue a point of fact or law, question a witness or present evidence. You need an actual license for that.
And there's nothing like having a good cross-examination to affirm why I still love being a lawyer. (Did I just repeat this?)
I don't want to add fuel to the "corporate" vs. "litigation" practice debate but this is just my opinion.
For today, it's another hearing. And I feel like I just passed the bar and got my license to practice law, in a good way of course.
