My first gig with Al...
Just came back from my first gig with Al.
It was a birthday party of one of our valued clients. My partner volunteered us to play one song, with him in the keyboard and his wife singing, "The Way You Look Tonight."
We have been practicing the song since Friday night and I have been putting some extra effort on the runs I had to do yesterday.
Then we put in an extra hour of practice early tonight before heading out to the venue.
Anyway, everything went smoothly, thanks to the practice we put in... and (more than) a few shots of Johnny Walker Gold Label to calm the nerves before the performance.
Next year, we'll probably do two songs... Well at least, I know I can play Al well enough to perform some songs for friends... not bad for a little over a year of playing the saxophone.
Here's to another fulfilling week for all of us. It was a good start, at least for me...

I'm planning to have my tenor sax cleaned one of these days. I understand all the things screwed into it will have to be removed to really get it shiny again. which shop do you go to when you want your musical instruments cleaned? JBFernando's?
Wow! A Tenor Sax! I got to get one of those one of these days! But after my new flute, of course.
Anyway, as a rule of thumb, you go to the music store where you got it for service.
For example, I go to JB Music to have my Armstrong flute (and perhaps my Fernando saxes) serviced because it's that store that carries those brands. Then I go to Yupangco for my Yamaha instruments.
But I think JB Music just outsources the service somewhere else also. I'm not sure if that's the same with Yupangco.
Anyway, I haven't tried Raon yet. So I don't have anyone to recommend from there. And in any case, I'm leaning towards the dealers, even if they outsource them, because it's easier to get back at the dealers in case something went wrong.
But why have your sax shined up? I think it will have more character with the tarnish.
